My 40 day (39 day) yoga challenge during Detox in Mississauga

I am in the midst of doing a 40 day yoga challenge–which is all about love. It took and continues to take a lot of effort and focus. I have 11 days left and see the progress that I have made. It is truly a transformative experience. It has been a perfect time to do this as we are moving from summer to Fall. This is also an ideal time to do a cleanse or detoxification. The yoga helps to transform and move old and toxic energy.
During this period, I had one of the busiest days of practice I’ve ever had in all of my 14 years! Later that evening I had a meeting with some colleagues. By the time I arrived home it was after 11 and I thought to myself, “If I really love myself, I will bypass the yoga tonight and get more sleep–which is what I REALLY need”.
So now I joke that I am doing a “39 day challenge”. I have no regrets that I missed that day of my detox.
Anyone who has ever been interested in doing a 40 yoga retreat or other type of retreat, I highly recommend it!

Delicious Detox!

On the weekend I decided to give my body gift of a ‘cleanse’.  I was due! Had developed some bad habits that i needed to break.
On Monday I went to the farmers market with a plan to find what i was going to make for dinner.

Recipe–Roasted Beet and Carrot with Purple Basil Dressing

  • * 1 8 oz chicken roasted
  • * 3 beets peeled and roasted with olive oil (on 400 for 30 minutes)
  • * 6 peeled carrots
Dressing:
  • * handful of purple basil
  • * 2 tbsp tahini
  • * juice of 1 lime
  • * 2 tbsp flax oil
  • * 1 tbsp purified water (use more if needs to be thinned)
  • * dash sea salt
Stir fry carrots in grapeseed oil for 10 minutes. At this point i threw in chicken cut into pieces to warm it up (it had been previously cooked), for 3 minutes. NExt i took beets, cut them into cubes and put them in a bowl with the chicken and carrots. I drizzled the dressing over top and presto–excellent omega rich, protein rich meal.
The best part of the whole meal was I found borage flowers at one of the booths at the farmers market. I sprinkled them on top!

Why You Need To Detoxify Your Body

Our environment is increasingly contaminated with toxins – in the air we breathe, the food we eat and the water we drink. Pollution puts enormous stress on our body and compromises our immune system. It is little surprise toxins are linked to several serious health condistions and diseases.

Antioxidant molecules aid your body’s ability to neutralize and flush out heavy metals, pesticides and carcinogens, which spear the production of cell-damaging free radicals.

As well as antioxidants, eat lots of fiber; it is important for cleansing your intestinal system of contaminants.  What have you done for your liver lately?

An easy and daily ritual you can follow to help your liver detoxify and support healthy bowel habits, is adding lemon to your water.
Using warm or cool filtered water, lemons are great at promoting a healthy pH in the digestive tract–this in turn gently stimulates bile flow and peristalsis in the gut.
