My Feet Have Been Hurting

Patients often complain of foot pain to us in our Mississauga health clinic.  It is a common complaint that can take a lot of effort to correct.

Why are my feet hurting?

Often times their is an overuse or improper use component to the feet hurting.  Unfortunately, this pain can happen after one long hike and last for months.

There are an infinite reasons why your feet may hurt unfortunately.  That is why it is important for a health professional to assess them and discuss your injury with you.  Our office has a Chiropodist, Chiropractors, Massage Therapists, and Naturopathic Doctors.  Below we discuss examples of how each health profession approaches foot pain.

What can a Chiropodist do for foot pain?

A Chiropodist is a foot specialist and can help you determine why your feet hurt.  This can be for infinite reasons.  Depending on the diagnosis, a course of treatment or advice is suggested.  A Chiropodist can be very helpful in getting your feet out of pain.

What does a Chiropractor do for foot pain?

Our Mississauga Chiropractor can help the foot more appropriately.  Our Chiropractors can use an Activator to adjust the different foot joints and soft tissues to encourage proper function.   He also discusses “pampering” the feet, or being nice to them when recovering.  Unfortunately, because we are always using our feet, they are often abused.  They often take a long time to get to the point where they hurt and often take a long time to get better.  Good simple habits go a long way to recovery.

These include soaking the feet, massaging the feet, rolling the feet, good simple shoes, and getting your feet out of your shoes.  If you have a standing job, it also involves anti fatigue mats and moving your weight between your feet often, almost like swaying on the spot so as to not leave all your weight on one foot constantly.

The take home point is that you need to listen to your feet, they are “yelling” at you for a reason.  A Chiropractor can help you figure out why and get them “happy” again.

What does a Massage Therapist do for foot pain?

Our massage therapists massage the feet.  Sandra specifically is trained in Reflexology, which is specifically aimed at contacting the feet.   Massage is an important role in recovery for feet that are hurting.

What can your Mississauga clinic do to help foot pain?

Thankfully, at our Mississauga health clinic, we have Chiropractors, Massage Therapists, Naturopathic Doctors, and a Chiropodist.  This allows for great collaboration in cases such as foot pain.  A team approach can go a long way towards your feet feeling better again.

What shoes are best for foot pain?

Every person’s feet are different and so there is not one answer to this question.  Often times people wear soft “comfy” shoes when their feet hurt.  This can unfortunately and oddly make more work for the foot leading to more pain.

-Our Mississauga Chiropodist (foot specialist) will help create custom orthotics to address unique foot biomechanical problems which helps the foot move properly, allowing it to recover / not injure itself more.

-Our Mississauga Chiropractor will educate on proper balance in shoes.  He encourages you to try to balance on one foot in your shoe.  If you are able to stand without wobbling or collapsing in at the foot/knee, the shoes are okay.  If you are wobbling in the shoe or collapsing in at the knee, you need to try new shoes.  This is especially the case if you balance better wearing no shoes.  This way of testing for appropriate shoes can allow for a more practical and functional shoe vs one that simply feels cushy.   The more functional shoe allows the foot to move without overworking the foot.
