Stay hydrated with this Natural Solution

We’ve come a long way in hydration from the Gatorade-days
I remember playing soccer in mid-summer, temperatures around 35 degrees in full sun, guzzling down some bright orange gatorade. This was definitely the best choice at the time and far safer than plain water as it included the electrolytes I needed to replenish my working muscles.
These days, we have become wiser and have much better options that include no artificial colour/flavours or excessive sweeteners.
Here are 2 of my favourites to stay hydrated naturally:
1. Vega: electrolyte hydrator This product is widely available and from the reputable company Vega. It has nice amounts of C and magnesium. It contains no sugar and is sweetened with stevia.
2. DIY Dr. Almon’s electrolyte booster: For those who have an aversion to stevia and like to make their own beverages, this may be a better option.
- 1/2 of a lemon or lime
- pinch of himalayan sea salt
- 1/4 tsp of unpasteurized honey
- 3 ounces of coconut water (I like Blue Monkey or Nirvana coconut water)
- 200 mL of filtered water
Mix/shake/whisk very well. Each batch is per person so you can double up if there is a tournament or more than 1 person playing etc.
As Hal Johnson and Joanne McLeod would say, “Stay fit and have fun!”
